Uncle Lyndon and the Two Fat Cyclists were to play the famous Beach at Pendine. The highlight of the weekend was to be the Saturday of Beach Scrambling organised by the Dredgers Motor Bike Club. TFC had to go ahead without their guiding light, as Lyndon had a previous booking at his mother in laws' birthday party.

With the bank manager visiting and promising a match funding of £750 for the charity TFC were able to raise nearly £1750 for the Children's Centre including the money from the Polar Bear swim.

TFC kicked it off with a few songs before the cheque presentation to County Councillor/Charity Trustee, Jane Tremlett.

With the night becoming an open mic soirée. Seth, a brief resident of the Hotel during his 6 week ejection from the caravan park, had requested whether his wife could play a few songs. Glenys, introduced by MC for the night, Glyn Davies, kicked off her set with 'Feeling Groovy'. The crowd were roused, a sing song followed, 'Nananana nana feeling groovy'. Finishing with 'Cheating Heart' we know we'll be seeing Glenys at a lot of open mic nights in the future.

Next support act up was the incomparable John Wright, sporting his new red mohican haircut.

'Why don't you wear a cap like me?', puzzled Phil.

Thrown by TFC attempting to play Steve Millers' 'Joker', John, without his opening number ripped into some dance numbers, pleasing the large Irish contingent with his 'Dirty Old Town'.
Becoming the double act known locally as Dereck and John, the boys roared through some harmonic gems. Practised in kitchens all over Pendine 'Brown Eyed Girl' followed leaving the crowd wanting more.

On came TFC, looking at the clock, thinking,

'shit it's only half nine and we've promised at least an eleven o'clock finish.

Then looking at the crowd and realising 90% had filled their bellies with a lot of booze and were baying for a sin song and a dance. We stuck it out and got out alive, even giving them a rousing, drunken, extremely raw, 'Sospan Fach' sung by the indomitable Dereck Alan.

Great community feel to the evening, lots of fun, lots of smiles and 'all for charity'

Two saddle up for ride of their lives | This is South Wales: "TWO Pendine cyclists are planning an epic ride through America's industrial heartland in aid of charity next month.

Cyclists Andy Edwards and Phil Jenkins, known locally as the Two Fat Cyclists, are planning to ride 1,200 mile in just six days from Chicago to New York in the hope of raising £12,000 for the Canolfan Plant Sir Gar children's charity.

They will be joined on the trip, which starts on March 9, by drivers Lyndon Williams and Gethin Jones.

To add to the challenge, they will be playing acoustic music gigs at various venues en route starting at the Candelit Bar, Chicago and culminating with a gig at the Longbow Pub and Pantry in New York."

We are having a Charity fundraiser in Caffi Iechyd Da, Jacksons Lane, Carmarthen onFriday, February 10^th. 7.30p.m. till late!

We areraising money for Carmarthenshire Children’s Centre in Glangwili. www.canolfanplantsirgar . The Two FatCyclists are trying to raise £12,000 for the charity.

In March2012 we are attempting to cycle 1200 miles in 6 days between Chicago and NewYork. The added challenge is that we are going to play gigs at variousbars/pubs along the way, starting at the Candelit Bar, Chicago and culminating witha gig at the Longbow Pub and Pantry in New York.

Two Fat Cyclists will perform a few songs after the presentation without their crutch that is Uncle Lyndon who is attending his mother in laws' birthday party.

Brave bears plunge into icy seas | This is South Wales: "A GROUP of brave Pendine swimmers recently took the plunge for charity.

Pendine's annual Polar Bear Plunge saw 22 sponsored swimmers take on the cold waters of Carmarthen Bay.

Thanks to their bravery, £1,000 was raised for the Carmarthenshire Children's Centre.

New Year, New Bang...

Today was the first outing of the TFC of 2012 and for Man Flu Phil the first ride for 2 weeks after suffering all over the festive period with what Andy described as, "a debilitating Illness"...Figian Man Flu.

With only 9 weeks left before the off and the start of our Chicago - New York Challenge the need to train and the pressure from the big one to "man up and get on it" was no longer bearable. So with still mucus engulfed sinus and wheezy chest we ventured out onto the highways on Pendine. In 4•C temps and 20mph winds we headed off to the Ginst and then returned via the "Hill of doom" where the old ticker according to my polar monitor was doing 164 bpm and causing a bit of heavy breathing. I struggled so hard the Fat Controller nearly beat me up to the summit.

More training planned for tomorrow and the rest of the week before a longer ride on the weekend and a planning meeting with our technical support consultants (Big Fat Gay Uncle Lyndon - BFGUL and Gethin "the very furtile man mountain" Jones.

Boxing Day Blues

TFC had to postpone the 'till our fingers bleed' gig at The Fountain Inn, Laugharne due to illnesses within the entourage.

With talk of a century of songs chloroseptic Phil was initially full of the xmas spirit until the dreaded man flu hit. 'Top of the bill' Phil out, Uncle Lyndons' proclamation to the awaiting press, 'sorry mate, I had the start of a cold Friday and its shifted gears on me last nite, result = no voice, hence can't help', the plug was pulled - the 'till our fingers bleed' gig was off!

So it was left to a fat uke player and a wookie of a mandolin stroker to fight the good fight on behalf of the charity and the good name of 'The Two Fat Cyclists'.

Using Brian Eno as a driving force, 'One of the interesting things about having little musical knowledge is that you generate surprising results sometimes; you move to places you wouldn't if you knew better.'

Decisions were taken and it was thought best not to stray too close to the lager-fuelled rugby club. So the wookie went north and the fat uke player drew the curtains and hid.

In the words of the great Brian Eno I leave you with these thoughts,

'I believe that singing is the key to long life, a good figure, a stable temperament, increased intelligence, new friends, super self-confidence, heightened sexual attractiveness and a better sense of humor.'

And as the great Keith Richards said:

'If you don't know the blues... there's no point in picking up the guitar and playing rock and roll or any other form of popular music.'

Friday, December 9th - Two Fat Cyclists and Uncle Lyndon will perform an american style set of tunes that will get feet tapping with the occasional sing song and non stop dancing. 'Oh What A Night' - or more like - 'Oh What A Weekend' - On tour with The Two Fat Cyclists & Uncle Lyndon

This weekend saw the Two Fat Cyclists & Uncle Lyndon doing back to back shows on Friday & Saturday nights.

Friday saw us `rocking` Gilberts Cafe in Pendine to celebrate the achievments of Michelle Gardner and Friends who recently completed a trek in the mountains of France in aid of the breast cancer unit at Prince Phillip Hospital, and also the ending of Dave and Michelle's tenure at Gilberts cafe.

We had a great night with Unlce Lyndon (I've got 20 years experience in this business) treating the crowd after downing a dozen cans of Hereford's finest fizzy canned apple juice to some duelling banjos, The Strongbow Song (a eulogy to cider drinking based on the melody by James Blunt in you're beautiful), as well as the crowd pleaseing, Dogging in Kenfig (a song about a man who goes for a walk at Sker beach followed by a swift pint at the Prince, Kenfig and wishes he hadn't) and also a yodelling Jim Reeves number.

A couple more cans of the electric lemonade in the back of the VW and we hit the hay in anticipation of the bigger gig ahead.

An earlyish brunch with Sue and Andy and then home to prepare for the evening.

We arrived at the Green Acres in North Cornelly at around 6.30pm managed a quick soundcheck and set up the room with Aunty Fran and Mandy just before the crowds started turning up.

After everyone had arrived and the customary chicken and chips supper we hit the crowd with 12 up tempo numbers as ordered by Uncle `I've got 25+years in this business` Lyndon Williams.

During the interval we had a great raffle and quiz that was only marred by a single incident which revolved around one question about the duration of the NFL season that was challenged repeatedly by members of the Rachel Williams pose`. After some swift negotiation amongst the committee and the consulting of various iPhone holders we agreed to accept the posee's answer if only to avert a fatwa' being issued by the Kenfig Hill and District Fatwa Council.

On to the second set and `more upbeat and keeping giving it to em' was ordered by `I've been in this business for 29 and 1/2 years` Lyndon Williams.

Another dozen songs and the crowd were rocking and on their feet and we even managed a couple of encores before calling it a day (always leaving them wanting more - Lyndon Williams circa 285mg/l blood alcohol level). However Mike the Acres (Owner) was having none of it and asked if we could accomodate flambouyant local hair designer Darren, AKA `Sharron Loves u' cock`. Uncle Lyndon, always one to accomodate anyone from alternativley orientatated sexual groups was right back into it and plugged backin and `banged` out a couple of quick ones including mustang sally, don't let your son go down on me and only you (Yazoo) to the crowds utter enjoyment.

A great weekend with around £500 in the bag for the charity.

Next up for us is the Royal Oak Kenfig Hill (November) and Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club (January)

We are 21 weeks away from flying out to Chicago to attempt 7 century bike rides in 7 days with the added challenge of completing as many gigs in Chicago and New York as possible.

I have been off the bike for nearly 3 weeks and any training that had been built up has now gone. I have suffered with extreme osteo-arthritis in the knee with the accompanying sciatica and sleepless nights.

Acupuncture, blood cupping, cod liver oil tablets, glucosamin and chondroitin tablets and three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar a day seem to have helped and tonight I hit the track for a 10 mile time trial in Carmarthen with my buddy, Phil who has also been suffering from various ailments (that's for him to discuss).

Henry Jones arrived back at Pendine today following Englands dismal display against the French in their quarter final match at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.Jones, 46 who is a world leader in sales bullshit had hoped to lay low in the seaside resort in an attempt to avoid multi-dimensional ribbing from his Welsh associates.His plan was scuppered however when local hacks spotted the hairy blonde toff exiting his playboy VW Sirocco Coupe at his in-laws residence this afternoon.

The Return Of The Pendine Snot Monster

It all started so well. A blast with the Big Man AKA Andy `Mucus-man` Edwards out from Carmarthen to Llanstephan and back with the target of doing the windy 17 miles in under an hour. From the off the big man was truly 'on the bang' pushing hard on a big chain ring. I was blowing hard just to keep up. After the first 3 miles I managed to get on his rear wheel and thought here's my chance for a quick breather. Then it all started... The Snot Monster came out to play. The twelve bore nostrils had an initial blast out, followed by a good chest cleansing, some indiscriminent spitting and a final double nasal barrel salvo.

I of course being tight behind caught most of it.

I decided quickly after this that the safest place was up front and I bust a gut to get ahead.

Fortunatly there were some hills ahead and I managed to stay out of range of the nasal armoury and any collateral damage.

As we got back on to the flatter roads on the way back the big man powered past me again but fortunately by this point the rain was hammering down and any further nasal phlegm bombs or chest shrapnel would be quickly washed off..

The round trip done in an hour and one minute. But taking into account the multiple traffic light stops total ride time was 58 mins.. Job done.

Llanmiloe stole our Mojo

Yesterday afternoon was Gala Day at Llanmiloe social club complete with Live music, BBQ, face-painting and bring and buy sale.

Due to the mildly inclement weather it was amongst the aforementioned bring and buyers that we found ourselves. Setting up in the main hall instead of the packed bar as we were told that "the crowd wanted to watch the football after the rugby international has finished".

Upon arrival clad in our tradmark dungarees and old timey check shirts we were what can only be described as `stared` out by a number of locals and while setting up I was asked by one youngster, "what have you come as?" to which I answered "Grandpa f**king Walton".

The Big Man had pre-warned me that his three previous dates here had all fallen flat and that there was little atmosphere to be expected. He also confessed to having once cleared the room by the 3rd song.

I should have heeded his wise words and perhaps taken him up on an earlier offer to `pull out due to health reasons` but I was feeling good and said I want to do it and genuinley thought that Llanmiloe could do with a blast of old timey. How wrong can one be.....

We started with a couple of up tempo numbers and it was clear from the outset that it just wasn't going to happen today. Kids all over the place driving their `new` bring and buy remote control cars at our sandal clad feet and one stall had a huge colletion of inflatable instruments and animals which meant that we had within minutes of starting a 10 piece inflatable backing band consisting of guitars, saxaphones and SEAGULLS behind us for the entire set but at least it made the parents of those involved at least look our way if not clap.

After 4 or 5 numbers Ian Frog, Iannis and their children arrived and we took a short break but not before I played an imprtomtu round of that favorite radio 4 show `one song to the tune of another` (I'm sorry I haven't a clue) when I started singing the words of Deep Elem Blues to the tune of something completly different (Get Along Home Cindy). What Joy... The situation was recovered not that anyone other than Andy or I really noticed...

Frog and Iannis then took to their feet and let rip with a couple of Irish numbers including `tell me ma` and `whiskey in the jar`. At one point I could see one woman sitting in the hall shaking her head as if to say `no, enough is enough. What are you lot doing here?` it did wonders for the confidence.

Iannis and Ian's set ended with the Boyzone version of that classic `when you say nothing at all` to which the assembled crowd didn`t go nuts at all. I guess that they must have been in a state of mild shock at seeing four fat blokes two wearing dungarees and two looking like mildly obese biblical characters (Iannis - Fat Jesus and Ian - rotund John the Baptist) singing late 90's boyband pop.

By this time we'd really gone to work on the crowd and the numbers were dwindling fast with tables being cleared and being packed away at a rate of knots.

During our second interval Andy looked at the clock, `6pm we've got 30mins left to clear the place he` muttered.

The `other` song book came out in a deveation from gigs of late and we decided on a few Stereophonics numbers and some more rockier tunes but Llanmiloe was having none of it. Not a single ripple of a clap was heard all night. Again the big man looks at me `13mins left`.

Stuck in the Middle followed by a drawn out Fulsom Prison blues and the big hand has reached the six and were opening the back door and unplugging gear before taking our instruments off.

We laugh at the thought of what has just happened most of the way home and can't believe the complete lack of atmosphere in the place. We actually played pretty well. Andy says that we could do with another gig just to wash the thought of what has just happened from us. We need a cleansing gig. I decide that Llanmiloe Gala stole our Mojo and that a restoritive chinese take away and a couple of glasses of wine is in order and off home I go still in a state of disbelief of what has gone before.

Still £100 in the charity bag...

New mobile PA system for the TFC - Chicago here we come..

The TFC travelled to deepest Solihull yesterday to purchase a new lightweight, portable PA system for future gigs and also our Chicago to New York cycle and gig fest next March.
The Bear was keen to purchase a new PA and was looking at a brand new Fender Passport system which all locks together, weighs and is the same size as a family suitcase. However the new ones were retailing for around £875. Porkpie suggests a search of Ebay and lo and behold, a 500 watt version in mint condition is up for sale and after a short bidding war goes to us for just £275.

The bidding over on Friday afternoon and the TFC and on the road at 6.30am Saturday morning to collect the system off Fatima who is in the middle of Ramadam, or as The bear refers to it, Rama-lam-a Ding-dong.

We arrive at 9.15am and ask to try out the kit which fails to power up.

With shaky hands the fuse in the plug is changed, followed by a second kettle power lead but no joy. We're gutted and are about to leave for the long journey home PA less when Edwardakis says with his best cheepo Wilkinsons reading glasses on the end of his nose "what's this? is it a fuse? I can't see". A seperate fuse in the kit is located along with its spare which I change over and BINGO we're on. it works and its loud.

Edwards get his girly-man purse out and money changes hands and we're back in the car heading back to S Wales with our new touring PA on the back seat with thoughts turning to gigs in Chicago and the Big Apple.

Blast from the Past

'Betty' a Dawes 531, re-discovered in a barn in Meadow View, upper Pendine is hitting the tarmacadam again. The hand built was bought in the late 80s from John Antoniazzi, County Cycles, Swansea Road, Llanelli.

Comfortably heavy, a classic of its time. Past on through generations of great magic mountain men of Marros it now lies in the poetic hands of Mr Kieran Owen. On being handed the bike at a ritualized blood letting ceremony at an unknown venue close to the Green Bridge Inn, the new owner uttered the immortal words, 'that's the ship's biscuit'. The ritual continued, blood was spilt, the frame blessed. After the baptism of the first ride - the famous twice round the triangle the new charge has now been christened 'La Bella'.

Like a sword and a shield 'La Bella' will not be owned by any one individual - she will be passed from hand to hand, generation to generation.

New Orleans, Louisiana: The clean cut, trim children's entertainer, Mr Bob (the) Builder AKA Pork Pie Jenkins has shocked the World after photographs taken last weekend have emerged exposing the one-time poster boy as an overweight, scruffy, redneck blob. It has been reported that after experiencing initial fame and success with such hits as 'Can you fix it', Jenko disappeared into obscurity allegedly after a particularly bad performance at a cricket club in Llanelli several years ago. Audience members on that night are said to have been physically and mentally affected by what some have said was the "worst gig in Wales ever".

A source close to Porky Jenkies informed a Sunday tabloid in May that after many months of "binge eating, hardly any physical movement at all and talk of taking up darts professionally", Jellkins, now 57, was to clean up his act and join Slimmer's World. Things allegedly were looking up when Pork Pie, on a diet consisting of "eating as much dust and water biscuits as he liked", was named 'Slimmest of the Fatties' 9 weeks in a row.

Fans, friends and family will be saddened to now know how the rumours of the star getting back on track was in fact just that and clearly just a PR strategy. Dr. Andreas Edvards of The National Centre for Clinical Excellence has commented on the newly found photo (below). He says "It is very clear to me that the specimen we see here has clearly been living on a diet of saturated fat and peanuts".

One patron to the less than clean bar in downtown New Orleans exclaimed "My buddy told me it was Bob the Builder but I just didn't believe it! It looked like that guy had eaten Bob and dressed up like a Village people tribute act and his voice and guitar skills were dogshite".

So what now for the one time mega star? The question on everyone's lips is 'Can he fix it?'...

Last night saw a mass Hoe Down at the Crow's Nest at Morfa Bay Adventure, Pendine raising money for Canolfan Plant Sir Gar/Carmarthenhsire Children's Centre, Glangwili Hospital

The Two Fat Cyclists accompanied by Uncle Lyndon (chief harmonizing warbler and lead maestro) and Seimon (The Tin Shed Experience, Laugharne) on drums. A hundred guests were entertained to an extravanganza of Americana and old time music

All served up with Kylie Jones' Hot-dogs, Chilli & Rice, homemade Southern States Cornbread and a stall selling high end cupcakes.

The day started fairly early with a 2pm warm-up called for by Uncle Lyndon to have a run through and to `tighten things up a bit`.

A downside to the early start was that it involved an early taste of the electric lemonade (Cider). Aunty Fran wanted to take it slowly and so eased herself into things by going down the Carling Black Label route.

First run through of the set showed that it still needed a bit of work and we were uncertain how some of the songs would work and without Seimon on hand till the actual start time of 6.30pm we would as Uncle

Lyndon `Jesse Duke`would say `have to wing it`

We took a break got a few more Stella Cidre's into us and awaited our guests arrival.

At 6.30pm Andy called for 3 crowd warm up songs which became 6 and things were underway. Seimon turned up half way through

about song number 4 and jumped on and we were off.

Food went down well with all and we cranked it up for the second set with a number of Kings of Leon hits and real old timey songs.

A round of party games including `Wacky Races` was held midway through the evening then the third set in which we repeated a number of songs for the ever changing crowd.

By Midnight a number of inebriated individuals were up and dancing before crashing and burning.

The band along with a number of its groupies sat down to cold chilli and rice after midnight and several of us retired to Sue and Andy's for Coffee and Cupcakes before bed at 1am.

Around £350 raised for the charity with the promise of some future fund raising events to come.

Today saw the TFC taking on the much feared Col D' Cwmbrwyn in sweltering 20•C temperatures.

The in form chunky duo took the decision to forego the easier Llansadwrnen run and opt for 14.5 miles of sheer pain and hill climbing that the extended route involves in an attempt to shift a few more pounds of lard on the journey back to C2C fitness levels.

in Pendine. Chief lardy arse Andy 'The Bear' Edwardakis, donned his newest blue dunga's, grabbed the family double bass and launched into an impromtu ho down.

Way Down South (Pencoed actually) With Uncle Lyndon aka The Cornelly Hillbilly and the Two Fat Cyclists

Yesterday started with a wet and windy training ride for the Two Fat Cyclists (TFC) to Llanstephan and back to Carmarthen and saw the chunky duo out for a second day on the trott with an earlier Friday night spin out in Pendine and Laugharne. It also marks a turning point in the training regime and a change in commitment with positive noises being made about the big man's plans for a Chicago to New York event next March to coincide with the Six Nations competition.

The idea at present is that we fly out to the windy city take in a Wales match at a Welsh bar, cycle to New York for the following weeks encounter against the French with a couple or three gigs along the way and taking in places with Welsh links etc.
With potential gigs enroute and with the upcoming Charity Americana event at the Tin Shed in Laugharne on July 9th we've called in the Big Gun, Spam Dagger chief warbler and Harmonizing Guru - Uncle Lyndon, who, after an initial practice last weekend is really up for it, being as he is absolutley steeped in old timey music.

After our cycle yesterday we jumped into the VW and headed up the M4 for deepest darkest Pencoed for another practice with our new band leader.

We found him in fine fettle as can be seen in the above photograph. we had a great practice of our new (cover) material and Andy has narrowed the set down to `just the 40 songs`.

Another practice this week hopefully and a couple of rides will see both Harmonies and cycle performances improve further before our first musical outing of the new line up in two weeks time.

The first 20 mile stretch to Machynlleth is mostly down hill and its absolutely knobbling again.

After that its on to Aberystwyth where I take a rest. Rhys and Andy carry on and I get back on just south of Aberystwyth with The Stone. We cycle

on to Aberaeron where Ian takes a rest. Andy, Rhys and I carry on and I manage the climbs to Ffos Y ffin and on to Synod Inn.

Rhys is struggling with knee pain and keeps applying Deep Heat and Tiger Balm, screams for pain killers and soldiers on.

After Synod Inn I take another short break and get back on with Ian at Horeb and cycle on to Windy Corner, taking in the climbs at Llandysul and Pencader.

At Windy Corner garage its clear that Rhys is suffering but decides to carry on.

Ian and I join the other in the van and head on to Travellers Rest just outside Carmarthen for the final 15 miles to Laugharne and the climb to Cross Inn and Hall Down.

Ian and I get there in good time and await Andy and Rhys who is by this stage making “ ah ah ah” noises with every pedal turn.

The short downhill run into Laugharne feels great and we are welcomed by Dai the Milk and Dr Gareth Williams outside Seaview (where we find the staff packing up for a move..)

A quick bottle of bubbly and its handshakes all round and back in the van for the journey back to a warm shower at Pendine followed by the All Blacks game at the 3 Mariners and home to loved ones…

A minimum of £1500 will be on its way to Frenchay After Burns Club, Bristol and another £1500 will be collected for the Dragon Burns Club, Morriston Hospital asap.

Thank you everyone for all your efforts and many thanks to all the people who kindly put a few pennies and the occasional pound in the coffers for the children.

A Quick breakfast of Porridge, Toast and Meatloaf and Mike drops us off at the Rhyd Ddu path. When asked what Rhyd Ddu means Mike advises “Black Rhyd”. We tell him we should be back at the rangers path by 12.30.

Conditions on the mountain are difficult and getting worse and after about 3 hours in an almost white out the

majority of the group opt to return to base via the Rhyd Ddu path.

Rhys desperately wants to continue having walked the path some weeks early in good conditions and trys to persuade everyone to carry on.

It is at this point that the Commodore comes out with a classic line.. while stepping backwards nearer to the group

that wants to return to base he says “ I’ll sit on the fence and go with the majority”…it’s a moment of lightness in what was a difficult decision.

The 4 40+ climbers go back and Rhys and Gethin (Chi Chi) continue and make it to the summit in very, very difficult conditions. Rhys understates that there is 10 minutes of a scrambly bit then we'll be back on the path and it'll be fine.

Geth follows and off they go.

'Bwlch Main is a narrow col, and is extremely exposed to the wind. It is quite safe, in reasonable weather, and as long as you keep to the path. In snow and ice conditions, however, it is extremely dangerous, and should only be attempted by experienced mountaineers with the proper equipment.'

The 4 that return to base get back to the

bunkhouse by 11am and find that Mike has already left for his 12.30 rendezvous. When Andy catches up with him he ask Mike why did you leave the bunkhouse so early…” I’ve only been here half hour` says Mike even though we’ve waited from 11am till 1pm at the house..

We pack up camp and by 2pm Andy and I are back on the bikes on our way to

Corris. The first leg is a long slow climb and while not 100% I feel better than I did and Andy continues to cycle strongly.

Rhys Joins us later and we arrive at Tal y Llyn lake near Corris around 5pm.

Tonight we stay at Braich Coch Bunkhouse and after having sorted the sleeping arrangements with Ian

`the nasal passage` in with Rhys and Gethin and Me Merv, Andy and Mikalis in the other

room, we meet at 6.30 for the trip into Machynlleth for food at the White Lion.

We have a pint or two and while Merv is checking in with home on his mobile he drops classic quote number two on us. While on the phone to Rae he’s also reading the menu…” I’d really like the ALL DAY breakfast, but I don’t know if they do it at this time of day”…

After food we head back to Braich Coch and a couple of pints in the bar. Andy and I get the

guitars out but I’m suffering still with my doggy chest and don’t feel in the mood.

Bed by 11pm and we’re up at 7ish for breakfast and shower before the off. 87 miles today all the way back to Laugharne.

The Two Fat cyclists and friends (Rhys `The Hero Like` Lloyd Hughes, Ian `The Champignon` Stone, Meryvn `The Articlulate One` Cooper, Gethin `Chi Chi` Jones and Mikalis Rowlandakis of Crete, gathered outside of the Seaview restaurant, Laugharne for the 7am off.

Four cyclists set off a little later than planned and with freezing and icy

conditions we took the first few miles easily to build our confidence.

While Andy, Ian and I were in full winter cycling regalia including tights, jackets etc, The Hero opted for the late summer look with two vintage tops, SHORTS and gloves complete with holes.As we reached Carmarthen after the first 10 miles the light had improved as well as the traffic volume.

The first leg was Laugharne to Alltwalis (22 miles) but Ian Stone hits the wall early, complaining of tight elastic in his socks and is exhausted after exerting massive effort to do jail hill. He gallantly carries on as far as Glangwili but the climb to Peniel and on to our first stop at the base of Alltwalis is to much and an emergency distress call to Chi Chi Jones is required. Ian gets a lift and we are later met by the support vehicle along with Dai `the milk` Griffiths bearing still warm, sticky honey buns from Laugharne bakery...lovely.

Mikalis Rowlandakis, who has had a tough first 20 in the van with the heaters on is first in the queue for a cuppa and a cake. After a quick 10min stop were off up the hill and on to our next stop Llanybydder another 10 miles on. The temperature seems to be dropping and there are several small pulls enroute to Llanybydder and a second quick stop is welocome. Surprisingly Mikalis is first in the queue again and is pestering Mervyn for a cup of coffee while getting a ststaining beef and onion pie into his gob followed immeadeatly by a hunk of fruit cake mmm.

Rhys, Andy and I then crack on to the next stop at Felin Fach. I start to feel the effects of the cold temps during this leg. Rhys' drinks bottle has frozen to slush puppy consistency and mine is so cold I find it hard to drink.

By the time we get to Felin Fach, Mike has drunken so much Coffee we've nearly run out of Sugar and he's so hungry having only had breakfast, pie, pasty and cake so far, nips into the garage for another warm pasty.

The 3 of us depart and head for Aberaeron and onto Aberath and the next Stop. At this stop I'm suffering from cramps as a result of not taking on enough fluids and decide to sit out a leg.

I join back in at the next stop just outside Aberystwyth and we crack on to Talybont. The first few miles go well but at Bow Street I start to suffer again with my heart rate way above my normal zone on even the slightest climb and more cramps, the others go on without me.

I struggle on in agony to within half a mile of the Talybont stop and have to call it a day with only 70 miles in the bag out of the planned 120 or so.

Rhys and Andy carry on making great progress in deteriorating conditions. The break does give me a chance to try to warm up a bit in the van but I cannot prize Mike out of the front seats nearest the heaters.... I'm suffering now and my chest is in agony.

Ian joins Andy for the fantastic climb up through Corris past Cader Idris, its around 3pm or so and the temperatures are now plumeting.

Andy carries on for a further leg and Rhys has gone on way ahead on his own.

We get near to Beddgellert at 5pm and have to call Rhys into the van as its now dark and we have to catch the outdoor shop in the village to purchase Crampons for the walk up Snowdon tomorrow as there is more snow forecast.

The shop had promised that they were open till 6pm and had suitable non ice crampons. We get there at 5.30pm and they are pulling the shutters down, and say that they cannot serve us as they've closed up the tills for the day and the chain type crampons they advised us about are for pavement walking only...useless.

6.15pm and we get to he bunkhouse and The Hero Lloyd Hughes baggsies the best mattress position and firsts in the shower. We all wait while he sings and bathes himself and we all manage to get to the Cwellyn Arms in time to order food.

We split into small groups of 2 and 3 for a couple of rounds and the pub has some great real ales.

Merv goes for a beer which is almost Guinness like. `is it like Dark` he asks the chef serving us..

Merv later goes to order his food (burger and chips) and as its his turn to get a round for Andy and I in asks for 3 pints of HoEgarden as well. With £20 note in hand ready to pay for his fare and hoping for some change, The Commodore is floored buy the request for £23.45..."beg your pardon shippers" says the commodore. "£23.45" says the Barman.."the Hogarden is £4.50 a pint". With much muttering Merv digs out a little more cash and sits down to enjoy his pint of lemonade.

After supping a 1/3 of his pint Merv complains that it doesn't taste nice and is a diffrent colour from Andy's. He calls over the Barman who investigates and says the Barrels OK. Merv says it tastes like crap and eventually a new barrel is connected and we get fresh beer. Then its back to camp and alarms set for 5.30am
